If only, I could accomplish all my resolutions, I would be this
I still dream of having an athletic body, being a productivity machine, a great networker, a disciplined being who begins his day at 4 am, a role model husband and father, a self-realized soul… The list can go on to several pages, still awaiting my time and attention. Meanwhile, I continue to be a mere mortal.
Thankfully, all is not lost.
What I lack in hundreds of areas, I more than make up for in creativity, innovation, strategy and marketing skills.
I hear you asking me lots of questions. Let me answer them one by one.
Isn’t ‘ideas at will’ a tall promise?
I am glad that you felt that way. Rather than making a claim that everyone feels is doable, it gives me a kick to make a promise that seems impossible, and then go on to deliver it.
I find one of your aspirations of getting up at 4 am in the morning very interesting. I heard that some of the world’s most successful people attribute their success to ‘morning rituals,’ as they call it. Didn’t you ever think of giving it a try?
I did. Once I decided to accomplish a long list of things before breakfast, the way the successful ones do. And you know what? I could finish every activity that I had planned to do. But there was a small problem. By the time I could finish everything, it was 2 in the afternoon.
But is there any way you are able to accomplish things?
Yes, there is. I am at my productive best when I intensely focus on a task for 10 to 15 minutes.
So focus is the way you accomplish things?
No. It is still incomplete. After the intense focus, I let my mind wander. This wandering is a must for me to get lots of creative ideas. As J.R.R. Tolkien puts it, “Not all those who wander are lost”. So when my wandering mind comes back to the task, it brings along with it, lots of fresh ideas.
Okay, let me ask you few business-related questions. What are the areas of your expertise that can benefit organizations?
Organizations can engage me for anything and everything that falls under strategy, creativity, innovation and marketing.
Are there any other areas that you are good at?
None.
What I meant is that other than strategy, creativity, innovation, and marketing, are there any areas people can use your professional expertise?
Ah, that way. People are free to take my consultation on anything. But before that, I suggest they go back and read my earlier answers. No one should complain that she/he was not forewarned.
Okay, so you doggedly want to stick to the core areas of your expertise. What would you like to be called? A Creativity and Innovation Expert or a Creativity and Innovation Guru?
I would prefer to be called a Creativity and Innovation Facilitator or even better, a Creativity and Innovation Catalyst.
In what way corporates can engage you?
There are many ways. Depending on the requirement, they could engage me as a speaker, rope me in for conducting workshops, facilitating brainstorming sessions, working with teams on projects that require an innovative approach and also for areas that require long-term engagement like building a culture of innovation and leadership development.
This seems to be a long list. One last question, how did you happen to learn creativity?
I learned it at gunpoint.
How?
I thought, you said, it was the last question… Okay, I was just kidding.
In my career, a time came, when in order to safeguard my job and reputation, I had no other option but to become creative. I was desperate. The good thing about it was that it forced me to learn creativity with intense focus. Every day, I tried applying some of my new learning at my work. Gradually, I started seeing results. Now, creativity has become second nature to me.
In the whole process, I was rewarded with a whole lot of paradigm shifting lessons. I can safely say, creativity has changed my life.
I believe that anyone who takes the trouble to crack the code of creativity will experience its life-changing effects.
